  • Abraham, being tested by God, was ordered to sacrifice his son Isaac on a mountain in the land of Moriah. They left together for the spot, Isaac carrying the wood for the fire, and Abraham a torch and knife. Underway, the unsuspecting Isaac asked where the lamb for the offering was, and Abraham told him that God would provide one. Abraham was about to sacrifice his son with the knife when an angel appeared and commanded him to desist, having proved himself in the eyes of God (Genesis 22:1-9).
