  • An Evening in Rome is a spectacular composition of St. Peter’s Basilica, as seen from Ponte Umberto on the Tiber River. In his own unmistakable way, Alexei has captured this view in his typical dramatic style, surely to captivate even the most sophisticated collector. The giclee measuring 22 x 34 is also offered in an edition of 295, with 30 Artist Proofs.

For those of you familiar with Rome, the cylindrical structure on the right is Castel St. Angelo. It was originally commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian (76 – 138A.D.) as a mausoleum for him and his family. Later on, it was used by the popes as a fortress and castle. Surprisingly, it was once the tallest building in Rome.

St. Peter’s was designed primarily by Bramante, Michelangelo, Maderno and Bernini and is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture. It is also, in large part, responsible for the current day condition of the Colosseum, since a great deal of the material used in the construction of St. Peter’s was recycled from it.
